Angela Dorothea Merkel was born in Hamburg on July 17, 1954. Today is a famous German politician who has served as Chancellor of his country since 2005.
Merkel is president of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union of Germany) since 2000, fulfilling its function at the same time deputy of Bundestag, lower house of German parliament. In 2005, after his election as Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel began to lead a political coalition of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, the Christian Social Union of Bavaria and the social democratic political party in Germany, who later, in 2009, constituted a new coalition consisting of the Christian Social Union of Bavaria and the Liberal Democratic Party. Angela Merkel obtained a triumphant political victory in the federal elections of 2013 with 42% of the total votes, leading the third time the CDU/CSU. Again, she ruled with political party of social democracy in Germany.
Throughout his government she has focused all her attention on maintaining the productivity of their country and on strengthening the European economy and politics and achieving a close political rapprochement with Russia.
The famous German politician is known for implementing a strict policy of austerity and discipline in Europe and for the way she has managed the economic crisis of 2008-2013, keeping his country apart from the effects of it, a fact popularly approved in the country. Merkel has been the second woman in history to assume the positions of the G8 Presidency and President of the European Council. The first was Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Because of her wide influence on the European Union and its well-recognized decision she is considered the leader of that entity.
The famous politician made a Health Care Reform in Germany and developed a key role in the realization of the Lisbon Treaty. She also was the driving force behind the Berlin Declaration. During her mandate she has always been focused on energy development in her country, promoting the use of nuclear power and promoting programs to strengthen alternative sources of energy.
Many media have referred to the famous politician as \"Mom Angela\", \"Mutter Angela\" in German because of her policies of solidarity with refugees who are victims of social and military conflicts in the Middle East. She has a broad knowledge of Russian and English. She is considered the most powerful woman in the world.
